December 21, 2012: Time to Say Goodbye?

Image
I am freaking out, I mean seriously freaking out! On a sunny day of April I woke up to read a horrible post on Facebook that turned my whole world upside down. It said the end was near. It had a lot of statistical data to back the claim, as well as a lot of religion stuff that compelled me to believe that I was actually going to die soon. The post said something about the 3rd of August (the date was converted from Hijri calender) and I waited eagerly for death to arrive, but I was surprised when I woke up on the 4th of August. The previous day had been forgotten because of my workload and I hadn't even noticed! But this time it's not the same. Apparently some Mayan smart-pants had predicted this ages ago, and although the statistical data does not say anything about the world coming to an end on the 21st of December, it is said that a terrible debacle will take place (probably an earthquake) which will kill as many as 90% people of the earth, leaving the rest to carry

Fighting the Fate

"Will my cat live?" The question haunted me for two fresh weeks not long ago. My cat Timmy was only three months old, and one day mom woke up and found him lying on the sofa with a high fever. I panicked. The last sick cat of mine had died. Was the same going to happen to him? You might think, "this girl is weird! The cats needed a vet that's it." But no, that's NOT it. I'll tell you why. I took my cat to the nearest hospital, which is the only public hospital and also the biggest one in Bangladesh (that's where I live). After seeing the cat for the first time (he had a fever of 105 degrees), the vet declared that he won't live. I was crestfallen. But then he said that he had a vaccine that he would inject, but all we could was pray! "Just once? Don't we have to continue it or something?" I asked him. "Do us, humans take medicine everyday?" he seemed to mock my words. I was so mad that I wanted to slap him hard

My First Homemade Beef Kebab!

Image
Having celebrated Eid-ul-Azha recently, the refrigerator is full of beef. Beef and beef! This time mom and I thought that we would give our taste buds a little rest from the usual beef curry that has been being cooked for all our lives. So we went to the store and bought this cool grill (it looks nothing like your ordinary grill, trust me). Yesterday, we gave it a try and the kebabs came out successful! The best part of it was that all of us (except for my boring brother who was sleeping all the time!) had a great family time! So here's a small account of how we all enjoyed the day!  At first, dad loaded the bottom of the grill with lots of black coal. Meanwhile, mom was preparing the meat. Large chunks of beef was cut into the shapes of long ribbons, and was kept soaked into vinegar for about 60-70 minutes. Wonder what I had been doing? Running to and fro with the camera in my hands! Okay so after that mom started preparing the spices, and dad and I concentrated on ligh

Latest Addition to My Cooking

Image
A few days ago, I entered the kitchen after a long time. The good news is, I have moved on to actual curry from all the light snacks I've been preparing so far. Here are some shots of the dishes I have prepared recently: Egg Curry : I don't know if it should be called egg curry at all. We call it 'Dim Bhuna' in our local language. This is quite easy to make but it requires a lot of oil and so will provide you with a lot of calories. But it tastes really good. Fish Curry : This one was easier than chicken! But this one too, comes with a lot of oil. Here's a photo that I shot: I added some fresh tomatoes and green chillies to add some extra flavors to the dish. You can add other vegetables if you wish. Pardon my poor serving, I'm never good at decorating dishes. I'm actually a bit confused about the spices that I've used to make the dishes, or else I would definitely upload the recipe here. I'm gonna search the internet, take pr

Henna Design: A Different Experience

Image
I bought another tube of henna last month, but didn't have enough time to apply it. I decided to give it a try a couple of days ago. The tube said 'Almas Henna Paste', I had already used one like this one once before and was pretty hopeful that it would give me the same bright maroon color that I had gotten the last time. But after I started applying I figured out that it was not quite the kind of henna paste that I always use. The thing was black, and left a trail of dark magenta (yes, magenta!) when wiped from the skin. Plus it smelled like pure chemical. I was sure this was some mixture of strong chemical and color to keep your palm decorated for a short period, nothing else! I got very upset. I guess I shouldn't have added the last bit on my wrist, right? Anyway. Apart from the smell, the henna seemed promising. It started to dry after a few minutes, and by the looks of it I thought it might be black henna (I don't have any experience with black hen

An Attempt to Make A Card

Image
I've always been interested in painting. Though the painting lessons we used to take at school seemed nothing less than a torture to me. I could never put shades or pick the right color. I even failed in one of my tests because of my poor coloring knowledge. But I occasionally give it a try. The only problem with me is that I can't imagine stuff and draw them. I need something to copy from. If I'm given what I'm supposed to draw, I can imitate it, even the colors. They are never perfect though, but they are never totally wasted either. Here's a card (I've given the photos of all the three pages of it) that I made for one of my friend's birthday. Unfortunately it wasn't as beautiful as it would have been if I'd bought a card. But my friend was actually happy to receive it. Oh ya, I used paper glitters as well. All the photos had been downloaded from the internet and I copied from them. The photo of the cake has some problems in it. Af

My First Pizza: A Big Sucess Through Many Small Disasters!

Image
Pizza-something I was planning to prepare for like forever. But I'd never thought I would just jump into it without any preparation. A couple of days ago I went to the nearest store, picked up yeast and green bell peppers and got started. Well, there are more than a thousand articles in the internet on pizza recipes, so I'm not going to give you another long, boring description of my one. Rather I'm going to tell you the story behind making this pizza. I just woke up one day and decided, "Yes. I'll make the pizza tomorrow". I went to a nearby store, where they had dry yeast bottled up. I picked up one, but there was a girl there (sales promoter should be the right word I guess) who told us (my mom was with me) that there was a better pack of yeast and handed us a packet with Chinese letters all over it. Although we had never used it before, we thought of giving it a try. We always buy things from there and the things are always good. So I didn't b

My First Nail-Art!!!

Image
These are the photos of my first nail-art. I know they suck, because I don't have all those shiny 'nail-art kit'. I was just sitting bored without anything to do so I thought of giving it a try-that's it. I used a french manicure kit, black nail polish and a needle (yes, a needle) to do this. Thought I should share it here :) Here are the photos: White Flower Black Flower I've been asked this a couple of times-will I continue doing this? Well, actually, no. this was just a try. I'm no good at all these stuff. But if I have the patience and new idea (and the proper tools of course) I might try this once again.

R.I.P, My Soul...

Image
I never imagined I'd write such a post ever in my life. Being so optimistic and positive about all the things in my life, a thought of such an incident never crossed my mind. 11 March, 2011. My only cat Mini gave birth to three kittens. At first we were worried. We had never thought of raising one cat, and had been gifted with four! The cats grew up, and filled our life with many colorful memories. They were pretty healthy, except for occasional sickness, such as cold. They would sneeze for a day or two, then they came round again. Our fears started to peak when all three of the babies got some sort of diarrhoea. We don't live in a very well developed country, so having very good vets and good treatment is actually far beyond our imagination. But still my dad went to this local hospital and asked a vet what could be done about this. That moron suggested that the cats be given human medicines, and told him that there was no alternative. That night we tried a lot to forc
