30-day Playdough Challenge: Day 6: CREEPY Bear

Image
Finally the sixth day came! I hadn't expected it to be so late, but I kinda got tangled into the mess of finals and term paper work, hence the delay. This time, my target was to create some berries or a white cat. But since the pizza, my white clay has never been the same before. There are splotches of green and red mixed with the stick and I am afraid that I might not be able to use it for something that does not allow red and green shades to be in it. I also found out that I had used a dirty hand to create the pizza dough, because the white clay had tinges of grayish/brownish residue mixed all over which I identified as dirt. Anyway, so this time I decided to do bear, which, I am mortified to announce, did not come out as I had expected. Seems like my sculpting days full of success are wonders are over! Okay, so here are the steps that I followed for making the bear. I was so submerged into the process that I forgot to take snapshot for every detail I put on the head. But ...

30-day Playdough Challenge: Day 5: Pizza!

Image
Finally the pizza! The pizza! Unfortunately the pizza did not come along as I had expected. I had only white clay, not the brownish one like a baked pizza. Here are the photos:

30-day Playdough Challenge: Day 4: Strawberries

Image
Today it was turn for some strawberries. Here are the steps recollected in the form of photos: First, I took the entire stick of clay and divided it into four portions. I kneaded them and created four balls.

30-day Playdough Challenge: Day 3: Pumpkins

Image
Actually, my plan was to make some strawberries today. But I ended up with three pumpkins. Let's drop the preamble and jump into the details. I picked the mildest orange and green blocks from my tub of horrifyingly vibrant clay, which looked something like this before I had peeled the plastic wrapper off:

30-day Playdough Challenge: Day 2: Rose (with Leaves)

Image
I wanted the 'second day' of this challenge to take place much later because I have some work pending and a few quizzes that need my attention, but it happened today anyway. I was having fun moments with my brother: I saw him struggling with the shape a head of a yellow duck, and I absentmindedly picked up the red block. A few moments later I was making petals for a flower. I added them all found this: Then I added a few leaves to the flower and the final product looked like this: Sorry about the center. I figured that I had never looked at a rose properly to learn what the center of a rose looks like. I still believe that i should do a frog next. :D Click here to see the complete album on my Facebook!

30-Day Playdough Challenge: Day 1: Hello Kitty

Image
To be honest, I never believed I would ever find some modelling clay here in Bangladesh. But I did! Although this was some Chinese clay with no label, I really couldn't decide on buying some lest they should turn faulty and unworthy of sculpting. But then I seriously thought of giving it a try and bought this rather colorful looking set of clay. This set has almost every color (two shades of the same color which was absolutely unnecessary) except for black! I was so upset because a lot of things needed black in them. So I let out a deep sigh and said goodbye to my dream of making a penguin! I wanted to try something as simple as a candy or a caterpillar of one color. But when I looked at the white clay, I decided that I would go for Hello Kitty first! Using playdough to create stuff does not really need any specific directions. All you have to do is use your imagination and fingers, and you will end up with a nicely sculpted clay model. So I am just going to post...

Review: Impossible 5 (Telefilm)

Image
Eid comes with lots of shopping, yummy foods and lots and lots of TV shows and telefilms. I usually remain busy with my cousins all day long, and barely have time to watch those. Plus recently a lot of new TV channels are popping in the scenario, so you actually lose count of all the TV serials that they air on fifty or so different channels. I remember that on one Eid I had actually made a list (a schedule, to be more appropriate) of all the shows that I wanted to watch, and had ended up watching none. The sponsor list of these TV shows is so long that there are actually more commercials than the length of the actual show, which is irritating at times (read 'always'). The schedule shows that the show will start at eight-thirty, which actually means that their will be about a hundred commercials, starting at eight-thirty, and the show will start whenever the last commercial of that particular session has been aired! I had lost my appetite in these shows before Airtel decid...

Nostalgic...

A moment ago, I was checking my diary in which I keep my transactions recorded- something I have been doing for quite a long time now. The diary has transactions of the past few years stored in it, filled in with black, blue and green pens. I don't know why, but I decided to check the past transactions, and what I saw almost brought me on the verge of tears. I still remember the day when mom declared that we would be getting pocket-money from the next month, and the amount was lucrative too. 1,000 taka was really a lot for us at that age. We were only leaving school then. Although kids of that age pretty much lay hands on more money, we never saw the face of those fresh notes before that age. If we needed something, anything , we would only name it, and dad would bring those to us in next to no time. It was that simple, and we never had to ask for money! I don't smoke or do drugs, and nor does my brother. Hence everything we ever did was acceptable to our ever-affectionate ...

Work, work and lots of work!

Image
My life has changed a lot in the past two days, and I have turned from being a full-time student to a full time student with a part time job! I simply couldn't fathom the burning passion in my heart for writing, and decided to turn it into the reason of my being on this planet. So without actually considering what I might be signing up for, I went for a written exam for an IT solution company who were apparently looking for someone who could write good articles. Articles, I thought, who doesn't know how to write them, right? A short, HD video clip started playing inside my head and I visualized the weekly magazines that I devour so fervently, and jumped into the thing without thinking for a second time. The exam went well: I was surrounded by students from English medium and I had almost lost hope that I would ever make it. But then right after a few days: DING! My email alerted me that I had indeed, gotten a message from the hiring manager. I was instantly on cloud nin...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Book vs. Movie

Image
I had first read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2005, but have re-read them several times, including my recent read this week. I had the movie saved in my computer and I decided to watch it right an hour after I had finished reading the book, and I am not surprised to say this, I was very, very upset with the motion picture.   I know this is an old topic, with people almost always stating that how bad the movie adaption of all the well-written books tend to be. But trust me, after realizing the whole thing with my own senses, and seeing the huge differences through my own eyes(although I have watched the movie only once or twice and read the book many times, I never judged them like I did this time), I ended up reaching the conclusion that it would be a complete injustice to my blog if I didn't write a post on this topic even once, for this series was the only one that had enlightened my entire childhood very much. So here I am, writing this post when I should ac...

An Earth-shattering Mishap! :(

Image
My phone was stolen yesterday! :( You must be thinking, "What's so earth-shattering about this incident? It keeps happening to many people everyday!" But think again. If this incident has not happened to you ever, you do not know how helpless we feel when we turn the back-pocket of our handbags to find the zip opened and the content vanished! It was another busy day and I was waiting for a bus at Malibag. The bus came, and I rushed with mom and other people to catch it (a very common sight in our country. Forming a queue is kind of a crime here!). There was a huge crowd gathered in front of the bus and we tried our way in. Behind my mom was a woman, the type that lives in slums-with dirty and tattered sari wrapped up around her body and a child held on her hip. She had another small kid of around seven to nine years old, not a day more than that! She was asking mom to let her through, and the nine-year-old was right behind me! Who would suspect an innocent child for ...

A Call for Help

Image
I was surfing Facebook just now and came across a post that referred to a website called Employ Adam . It was built by someone called Adam Pacitti , and currently, he is looking for a job. He has set up his website with a hope to finding a job sooner, and I found this idea very intriguing and creative. Not just the website, he says to have spent his remaining few bucks to book a billboard and put an ad so that he can get hired. Below is an image of the billboard that I downloaded from the website with the owner's consent for sharing it here on my blog:  This guy has a first-class degree, and yet far from getting any job! I have three more years till I graduate and I can already see myself in there-a girl with an average CGPA sitting in a room full of applicants for her interview, only to find out at the end of the day that she has not made it. Disappointed, fatigued, defeated, she returns home but makes up her mind to go to the next interview in the dead darkness of the night...

Movie Review: The Last Three Animation Movies that I Watched

Image
Hotel Transylvania Release Date: September, 2012 Duration: About 90 minutes IMDb Rating: 7.1/10 (as of January 19, 2013) Okay I want to keep this one as short and simple as possible. Like I said before, everything that has a touch of something paranormal (not in the scary way though) to it manages to steal my heart. This movie was not an exception. I loved the idea of monsters being scared of humans and the characters were quite likeable, too. The only thing I did not like about the plot is how it ended: humans not freaking out to find real monsters among that? Not likely! The animation was flawless, the soundtracks rocked, and this movie couldn't have been much better! So my rating is: Eagerly waiting for the sequel to come out! Brave Release Date: June, 2012 Duration: About 93 minutes IMDb Rating: 7.2/10 (as of January 19, 2013) A Disney movie with an awesome princess-common! A Disney movie with an awesome princess but not any awesome prince or...

Recipe: Semolina Nuggets

Image
This recipe is positioned at the top of my 'All-time Favourite Snacks' list. Easy to prepare and yummy as hell-this recipe was taught to me by my mother and it was always known to me as a family recipe. However, I believed that the recipe was quite common, but after looking for it in the internet I couldn't find it posted anywhere; although I'm sure almost all the households of Bangladesh has tried these nuggets for at least once in their life. Below is the recipe: Ingredients: 1. Semolina--1 cup 2. Onion--1, medium sized 3. Egg--1 big or 2 small 4. Vegetables--finely chopped; optional 5. Green Chillies--3-4, chopped 6. Salt--a pinch, or to taste 7. Oil--enough to deep fry the nuggets Adjustments: The amount stated above is most likely to yield about 7-8 nuggets, or more if you make them small. If you want to increase the serving, add another (or more) egg(s) and semolina, and increase the amount of onions and vegetables. Don't forget to adjust the ...

Book Review: The Iron Daughter

Image
The Iron King (The Iron Fey #1) by Julie Kagawa Description of the book on Goodreads : Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined. Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home. When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.
